Design Situations - Explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem
The problem is teamwork. I will be trying to solve the lack of educating kids teamwork skills from a young age through an Adobe Flash animation video. This problem grasped my attention since many students in Middle School are really struggling in teamwork assessments and activities nowadays due to their lack of experience of working with others throughout the earlier years at school. Team work and collaboration creates a well-rounded education in the school's system, and improves communication skills for everyone. Teamwork can also improve the outcome of a project because you're able to allot the strengths of each group members with a task for the project assigned.
Teamwork is a very important and crucial subject matter for all students worldwide; without it we wouldn't have business and companies helping one another to build new cities, invent new and improved technology, or even come up with the cure for outbreaks and lethal diseases worldwide.
Teamwork is a very important skill to learn since it is very helpful and crucial in the upcoming years of our life; therefore I would like to teach kids of the next generation how to work with one another. This will be useful when it comes to working together in a sports team, in a school group assessment, or even when they group up to work with other companies for a project.
My target audience are kids aged between 6-8 years. Teaching kids from a young age will help students to therefore develop their skills gradually over the upcoming years in their life.
Therefore, we should try our best to help early primary students to adapt to working with new people they may or may not be comfortable working with, and to teach them the advantages of a team project being successful; or vice versa.

Describe the main features of an existing product that inspires a solution to the problem
Product 1: The Incredibles
The Incredibles is one of the most famous animation movies there is to know. The movie's appearance gives away the main concept of the film, to its' viewers and is attractive to kids who are into cartoon and superheroes. The cost of The Incredibles 92 million USD when published, and the movie is definitely value of it's money. This film has entertained a large amount of kids around the world, and has reached it's target audience successfully since kids aged 3 onwards have enjoyed this movie a lot. Despite all this, the movie has snuck in some violent and dangerous scenes that may affect little kids in a bad way. For example, a man attempts suicide and sues the person who stops him, a police officer immediately pulls out a gun when he sees two men he thinks are robbing a jewelry store, and violence has been included throughout the movie too. On the other hand, the movie has many important morals behind it such as taking risks, don't be afraid to be yourself, and that the smallest act can have the biggest impact. The movie is not too long nor too short, therefore keeps kids entertained throughout the whole movie without having track of time. Some of the materials and programs that the creators used were Maya (animation, and modeling), Adobe After Effects (explosion), and Adobe Premier to stich all the sections together and adjust some of the pacing. In conclusion, the movie has many strengths, and, the same way, includes a few weaknesses. The Incredibles is value of it's money, suits it's target audience, has many strong morals behind it, is just the right length for a family to watch together, but includes a few violent scenes throughout the film. |

Product 2: Brain pop - Digital Animation video
Brain pop is a very famous website with over 1,000 short animated movies for students aged 6 between 17. Brain pop covers science, social studies, English, mathematics, engineering and technology, health, and arts and music subjects. This short video is free of charge; however, there are other videos from brain pop that requires a subscription in order to watch. Yearly subscriptions vary from $99 to $195, and school subscriptions start from $895. Despite the high prices, the high quality of work makes the videos value of it's money. Brain pops made for grades Kg to grade 12 (ages 6-12), and the videos serve just that. There many categories for different aged students to learn something from one of their short educational animations. The website's environment is very friendly and pleasant; allowing the visitors to feel welcome when entering the website or even watching one of it's many videos. This video's appearance is very attractive and appealing; it has a picture of a scene of creating an animation on Adobe Flash. The video's size might be a little short for beginners to learn all about digital animation and Adobe Flash, but it still sends the information through to the viewer. This video also includes no violence nor brutality; therefore suitable for kids. Furthermore, as mentioned in the video itself, the producers used the program Adobe Flash to create this video: they even explained how to use the program itself. As an area of improvement, i think that it would be better if this animation video was a bit longer so that we can learn a few more important details about digital animation. In conclusion, this Brain pop video was enjoying to watch and was successful in sending it's information to whoever is watching. https://www.brainpop.com/artsandmusic/artconcepts/digitalanimation/ |
Product 3: Ted Ed - 3 Tips to Boost Your Confidence
This animated video was created by Ted Ed (TED's education initiative which aims to amplify the voices and ideas of all teachers and students around the world). The moral behind this video is that when faced with a big challenge where potential failure seems to lurk at every corner, you should always have total self confidence in what you are doing. You can watch this video on the attached Youtube link below for free. This is very impressive given that the video is of high quality and has a lot of effort put into it. This video's target audience is mainly girls of all ages; and the video accomplished their mission in encouraging women all around the world to have confidence in themselves. This video is 4 minutes long, and it uses it's time very wisely. Ted Ed creates it's animation using Kozmonot Animation Studio. If there was one thing to improve in this video, i would say to include both boys and girls for equality. However, what also makes this video unique from others is that it encourages girls to do whatever they want to no matter what; and I think that is very important for women to learn. Overall, this video is entertaining to watch, and is really efficient in supporting women to have self confidence and belief in themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_NYrWqUR40 |
Design Brief:
My chosen topic for the I.T animation is about teamwork. Some essential skills for teamwork include: listening, questioning, persuading, respecting, helping, sharing and even participating with others. Teamwork is a very important and crucial subject matter for all students worldwide; without it we wouldn't have business and companies helping one another to build new cities, invent new and improved technology, or even come up with the cure for outbreaks and lethal diseases worldwide.
Team work and collaboration creates a well-rounded education in the school's system, and improves communication skills for everyone. It can also improve the outcome of a project because you're able to allot and divide everybody's strengths in a group with a task assigned for the class project. Teamwork also helps increase social skills, and can help students adapt to working with new people they may be comfortable or uncomfortable doing work with.
My target audience ranges from ages 6-8. My chosen topic is suitable for my target audience since teamwork is a skill needed to be developed from a young age. Children who participate in teamwork activities inside and outside of the classroom develop a greater sense of social competency, cooperation, communication, negotiation and self reflection. Thus, my topic chosen is very important and crucial for early primary students.
My target audience find some relatively mature things boring and uninteresting; therefore the best way to get around with them is to incorporate cartoon or fun activities for the kids to enjoy the lesson being taught. At the ages 6-8, kids have developed many basic skills such as communication, gestures or even posture. However, they still can't understand the clear difference between right and wrong, and may not take the right directions in their day-to-day life. My Adobe Flash animation can teach children how to act in a team with others (whether at school, in sports, or even in a fun team activity), and can also tell show them the advantages of teamwork the it is successful; and vice versa.
In CT, we are creating an Adobe Flash animation about any subject of our choice. Animation is a technique of photographing consecutive drawings to create an illusion of movement when presented in a faster pace. For this project, I will use the program Adobe Flash for the production of my digital animation.
Adobe Flash is a multimedia system mostly used for the production of animations, browser games, desktop apps and even mobile games. Hence, Flash is very useful for my digital animation topic, and will be very interactive with my target audience. another advantage of Adobe Flash is that it is compatible with Mac softwares, which will suit my personal device. The Flash toolbox consists of many tools to draw graphic, fill color, modify shapes and is accompanied by a very wide selection of colors to choose from.
I am going to design an animation video about teamwork on Adobe Flash. I will use Flash since the program is an efficient way of teaching young kids about teamwork since my target audience learn by interacting in activities, therefore cartoon animations is an enthusiastic way for kids to learn about teamwork and use what they have learnt in real life. Adobe Flash also offers appropriate tools and controls for the production of an I.T animation.
Teamwork is a very important subject for my target audience (kids aged between 6-8 years) since teaching students about team work from a young age will help them develop their skills gradually over the upcoming years in their life such as group school projects, helping each other in sports game, or even when working with other companies when they start work.
